What's the Best Way to Revise MYP Biology?

Revise in short active cycles: recall key content from memory, mark it against the MYP criteria descriptors, then redo only what you got wrong. Don't reread notes — reread mistakes. Aim for 25-30 minute blocks across all four sciences criteria, not one long cram on Criterion A content alone.

Revise strand by strand, not subject by subject. MYP Sciences uses four criteria — A: Knowing and Understanding, B: Inquiry and Designing, C: Processing and Evaluating, D: Reflecting on Impacts. Pull past tasks, sort them by criterion, then drill the one you score lowest on first.

Criterion C (Processing and Evaluating) marks drop when students describe results instead of interpreting them. State the pattern, link it to the scientific concept, then evaluate the method's limitations with a specific improvement — not a vague "use more trials".

Underline the command term first — every time. "State" wants one fact, "outline" wants a brief summary of a process, "explain" needs cause and effect. Then check the mark allocation: a 3-mark question usually needs three distinct points, not one long sentence.

Don't try to relearn content the night before — test what you already know instead. Do 15-20 minutes of active recall on your weakest topic, check it against your notes, then stop. Sleep matters more than one extra hour of rereading at this stage.

DP Biology is more demanding — it has a far larger content load, requires quantitative data analysis and links to the Nature of Science, and (at Higher Level especially) moves faster than MYP. MYP 4-5 Biology is designed to build the inquiry and evaluation skills DP will later assess in depth.

If your child scores consistently in the 6-7 range on MYP Biology Criterion A and C, and enjoys data-based reasoning, DP Biology is a reasonable choice. Struggling with Criterion C (evaluating evidence) at MYP level is worth addressing now — that skill only gets more heavily weighted at DP.
