In plain English
We use a small number of cookies. The ones that keep you logged in are essential and cannot be switched off. Everything else — analytics and marketing — is off until you agree, and is never used on a student account we know belongs to a child.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, pixels and software development kits in mobile applications. In this policy we refer to all of them as cookies.
Cookies let a site recognise your device, keep you signed in between pages, remember preferences, and understand in aggregate how the site is used. Some are deleted when you close your browser (session cookies); others persist for a set period (persistent cookies).

A current, itemised list of the individual cookies in each category, with their names, providers and durations, is maintained in our Cookie List and is updated whenever our providers change.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by our service providers rather than by us — for example our analytics provider, our payment provider during checkout, and our advertising platforms where you have consented. These providers process the data under contract with us and, in the case of analytics, we enable IP anonymisation and disable data sharing for advertising purposes where the provider supports it.
Embedded third-party content such as videos may set its own cookies when you play it. We block that content from loading until you consent.
Cookies and children
Where an account is identified as belonging to a person under 18, we do not set marketing cookies, do not permit advertising identifiers, and do not use tracking that follows the user across other sites or services. This restriction applies regardless of what consent may have been given, and reflects our obligations under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and, where applicable, the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.
Managing your choices
When you first visit the site you are asked to accept or reject non-essential cookies. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and no non-essential cookie is set before you choose. You can change your decision at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings, and clear those already stored. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in. Browser controls apply per browser and per device, so you will need to repeat the change on each one.
