Cookie Policy
In plain English
We use a small number of cookies. The ones that keep you logged in are essential and cannot be switched off. Analytics — counting which pages are used and where people get stuck — runs across the site, including inside a signed-in student account. We also make session recordings: a replay of the pages you were shown and where you clicked, including inside the learning area. What you type is hidden, and your profile and billing pages are never recorded. Marketing cookies are off until you agree and are never set on an account belonging to a child.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, pixels and software development kits in mobile applications. In this policy we refer to all of them as cookies.
Cookies let a site recognise your device, keep you signed in between pages, remember preferences, and understand in aggregate how the site is used. Some are deleted when you close your browser (session cookies); others persist for a set period (persistent cookies).

A current, itemised list of the individual cookies in each category, with their names, providers and durations, is maintained in our Cookie List and is updated whenever our providers change.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by our service providers rather than by us — for example our analytics provider, our payment provider during checkout, and our advertising platforms where you have consented. These providers process the data under contract with us and, in the case of analytics, we enable IP anonymisation and disable data sharing for advertising purposes where the provider supports it.
Embedded third-party content such as videos may set its own cookies when you play it. We block that content from loading until you consent.
Cookies and children
Where an account is identified as belonging to a person under 18, we do not set marketing cookies, do not permit advertising identifiers, and do not use tracking that follows the user across other sites or services. This restriction applies regardless of what consent may have been given, and reflects our obligations under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and, where applicable, the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.
Analytics is treated differently from marketing, and we want to be plain about the difference. We do measure how the learning area itself is used — which subjects and topics are opened, where a question is abandoned, which screens people leave from — on every account, including a child’s. This is first-party measurement of our own service, used to decide what to fix and what to build; it is not advertising, it is not sold or shared with advertisers, and it does not follow anyone off this site.
That measurement includes session recordings, and this changed on 6 October 2026. A session recording is a replay of the pages you were shown, where you moved and where you clicked. It is reconstructed from the page itself rather than filmed from your camera or screen, and it now covers the learning area, so a child’s practice session may be recorded.
Four limits apply to those recordings, and they are enforced in the product rather than by policy alone. Anything typed into a box — answers, messages, passwords, card details — is masked before the recording leaves the device, so we never receive it. Your profile, subscription, order history and password pages are never recorded at all. The recording is tied to an internal account identifier rather than to a name or email address. And recordings are used only to understand and fix how the Service works; they are not used for advertising, are not sold or shared with advertisers, and are not used to assess an individual student’s academic performance.
Managing your choices
When you first visit the site you are asked to accept or reject non-essential cookies. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and no non-essential cookie is set before you choose. You can change your decision at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings, and clear those already stored. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in. Browser controls apply per browser and per device, so you will need to repeat the change on each one.
